Christian Home Visitation Initiative

BUILD. FOSTER. STRENGTHEN

Build. Strengthen relationships and form meaningful partnerships with Creek families.

Foster. Nurture faith within Creek families by demonstrating impactful spiritual practices in their homes.

Strengthen. Support the growth of Creek families by fostering a healthy environment for mutual learning and growth.

The Christian Home Visiting Initiative is rooted in sharing our faith with children, recognizing that learning begins at home, with parents and caregivers as the first and most vital teachers. Discipling children, however, can feel overwhelming for families, who may wonder if they have enough biblical knowledge to fulfill this responsibility. Yet, parents and caregivers are well-equipped to nurture their children’s spiritual lives. As a church, it is crucial that every family feels confident in guiding their children toward understanding the value of walking with God. To support this, SCBC has developed a program with the following goals:

  • Build strong relationships and partnerships with Creek families.
  • Enhance families’ ability to cultivate meaningful spiritual practices at home.
  • Gather insights and feedback to improve church programming and better serve families.

In partnership with families, we aim to walk alongside them, offering support while also learning from their experiences. Our goal is to equip families with a spiritual toolkit that strengthens their discipleship journey, helping them and their children grow closer to Christ and one another. This shared growth enriches our church, fostering a community that reflects the diverse needs of its members.

Why Home Visiting

We have chosen home visits as a strategic approach, supported by extensive research on their effectiveness. Sheldon and Jung (2018) found that home visits positively impacted students’ academic performance and reduced absenteeism. SCBC embraces this approach, believing it will not only deepen our connection with families and share the word of God but also enhance engagement in education, civic matters, and social justice. This model provides consistent community involvement and feedback, enabling families to shape the program’s design and impact. As a data-driven initiative, the program will adapt based on feedback, ensuring its relevance and effectiveness.

Core Practices (Adapted from the PTHV Home Visiting Initiative

  • The home visiting curriculum is based on Christian principles and values specific to SCBC, addressing unique cultural traditions and family practices.
  • Participation is voluntary for both families and the home visiting team.
  • Faith leaders and home visitors are trained and compensated for their time.
  • The first visit focuses on building relationships, understanding family priorities, and hearing their hopes for their children.
  • Families may participate as volunteers, visitors, or recipients.
  • Visits are conducted in pairs and always begin and end with prayer

Program Overview

The program consists of six home visits, each focused on developing a spiritual practice as a family. By the end of the program, families will have created a spiritual toolkit containing meaningful artifacts from the practices they’ve explored. The initial visit is centered on relationship-building between the family and the visiting partner.

Six Spiritual Disciplines:

  • Building Relationships
  • Walking in Wholeness
  • Celebrating Life
  • Caring for Our Homes
  • Making Wise Decisions
  • Serving Family and Community

Through this Christian Home Visiting Initiative, we seek to build strong, lasting partnerships with families by walking alongside them in their faith journey. Our goal is to foster a relationship where both the church and families support and learn from one another.

By providing a spiritual toolkit, we aim to empower families with practical resources to integrate faith into their daily lives. We hope all family members will draw closer to Christ and one another, helping our church grow stronger and more responsive to its diverse community.
