Strengthening Families with a Purpose
EQUIP. ENGAGE. EMPOWER.
Mission
Strengthening Families with a Purpose exists to build resilient, connected, and spiritually grounded families where faith is practiced, relationships are nurtured, and communities are transformed. Through intentional discipleship we equip parents, caregivers, and children with compassion and dignity, offering tools, encouragement, and spiritual support that help strengthen family life and deepen their walk with God.
EQUIP: We equip your family with practical and spiritual tools that support everyday life—helping you navigate parenting, communication, faith, and transitions with confidence.
What this feels like: Support that makes sense for your real life, not pressure or perfection.
ENGAGE: We engage with your family through consistent, trusted relationships built over time and through meaningful family visits, listening, and community connections.
What this feels like: Someone walking with you, not watching you.
EMPOWER: We empower your family by recognizing your strengths and helping you move forward with confidence and hope for the future God has for you.
What this feels like: Belief in what your family can become through Jesus.

Why Home Visiting
We have chosen home visits as a strategic approach, supported by extensive research on their effectiveness. Sheldon and Jung (2018) found that home visits positively impacted students’ academic performance and reduced absenteeism. SCBC embraces this approach, believing it will not only deepen our connection with families and share the word of God but also enhance engagement in education, civic matters, and social justice. This model provides consistent community involvement and feedback, enabling families to shape the program’s design and impact. As a data-driven initiative, the program will adapt based on feedback, ensuring its relevance and effectiveness.
Core Practices (Adapted from the PTHV Home Visiting Initiative
- The home visiting curriculum is based on Christian principles and values specific to SCBC, addressing unique cultural traditions and family practices.
- Participation is voluntary for both families and the home visiting team.
- Faith leaders and home visitors are trained and compensated for their time.
- The first visit focuses on building relationships, understanding family priorities, and hearing their hopes for their children.
- Families may participate as volunteers, visitors, or recipients.
- Visits are conducted in pairs and always begin and end with prayer
Program Overview
The program consists of six visits. Each visit, after the initial Relationship Building session, will focus on families nurturing the five remaining spiritual practices. During each 75-minute visit the Family Partner will lead a discussion about the week’s spiritual practice. Then the family will be given a supporting independent family activity to complete during the following week. At the end of the six weeks, each family will have created a spiritual toolkit of information and artifacts representing all the practices they have delved into.
Six Spiritual Disciplines:
- Week One: Relationship Building
- Week Two: Walking in Wholeness
- Week Three: Celebrating Our Lives
- Week Four: Caring for Our Homes
- Week Five: Making Good Decisions
- Week Six: Serving Family and Community
Understanding Family Visits
The Strengthening Families with a Purpose initiative focuses on embracing and sharing our faith with our children. We recognize that learning begins at home, where parents and caregivers serve as the first and most significant teachers.
However, many families find the task of discipling (intentionally helping others become more like Jesus by teaching, mentoring, and building relationships) their children to be overwhelming or challenging. They often wonder if they possess enough knowledge or biblical understanding to take on this important responsibility.
The reality is that parents and caregivers are equipped and capable of guiding their children toward a fulfilling and healthy spiritual life. Our church community needs to ensure that all families understand how to direct their children in a way that highlights the importance of living a life connected to God.
To support this mission, Spring Creek Baptist Church (The Creek) has developed a program aimed at:
- engaging in meaningful conversations around six core spiritual disciplines.
- learning and growing together in a comfortable, familiar setting.
- building lasting relationships with others in your church and community.
